In the event of snow, be sure to shake or brush off the white stuff from the branches of your evergreens and shrubs.
Houseplants may notice the longer days, and begin growing.
You can begin feeding them again, but use a dilute 50% fertilizer mix until the growth is robust.
After the first frost, add a 2-inch layer of Greenfingers Organic Manure Mulch around the bases of your trees and shrubs.
They’ll appreciate the extra protection during winter months.
The vegetable garden should get its first tilling (if weather permits) to allow the weather to aid you in breaking up the dirt clods.
Exposed weeds and seeds hopefully will perish.
Clean and repair your garden tools, book the lawn mower in for a service and check garden furniture for any rot.
When it is warm enough, treat sheds, fences and trellis with wood preservative.
Give your shed a good clean before the spring gardening season starts.
Dig over bare areas of soil and add Greenfingers Organic Multipurpose Compost to
improve drainage and to provide organic material for worms, etc.
Late winter is the time to prune many deciduous trees. Look over your plants now and remove dead, dying,
or unsightly parts of the tree, sprouts growing at or near the base of the tree trunk and crossed branches.
Plant and divide snowdrops and winter aconites after they have flowered but still in leaf.
Wildlife tips -
Check bird baths and ponds and remove any ice.
Try to avoid disturbing areas where you think there might be creatures, such as toads, overwintering.
Put up bird nesting boxes this month - it’s the last chance before tits start looking for a suitable residence.
If hedges need trimming, do so after the birds have eaten the berries (but before the nesting season begins in March).
Continue feeding our feathered friends, you'll want them to stick around to help you in insect control when the weather warms again.
